The Primary Health care (PHC) department has a long history of collaboration with relevant international health organizations (like WHO, UNICEF, RCGP, US AID, Canadian IDRC & EC), Arab healthcare institutions, the Egyptian Medical Syndicate and MOHP, as well as NGOs for research in family practice, training of primary care professionals and health development in Egypt and Arab countries.

The department conducted the WHO research project about Schistosomiasis and water contact behaviour in rural Beheira.

It contributed to the UNICEF research project for health status appraisal of a squatter area in Alexandria and its reassessment after the implementation of health development program by community involvement; as well as the project for assessment of infancy vaccination coverage in rural Beheira.

It also contributed to the US AID research project for assessment of prevalence and public awareness concerning fascioliasis in rural Alexandria; as well as the Canadian IDRC project for assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice of farmers for Bilharzial control by “Damsissa Plant”, Beheira governorate.

It also contributed to the WHO health development program for promotion of child mental health services in Alexandria; and the Rotary program for strengthening TB control in Alexandria.

The department collaborated with the RCGP, EC and MOHP for training of family physicians enrolled in the Egyptian Board of Family Medicine.

It also conducted several training programs for primary care professionals from different Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, Qatar and Syria.

In addition, most PHC faculty members were exposed to the Arab Culture while working at Family and Community Medicine Departments, Medical Colleges of the Gulf countries; as well as to the Western Culture at School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University, USA.

Job opportunities for Primary Health Care graduates:

 1- They can work as family physicians in family health facilities affiliated to Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) or Health Insurance.

2- The new Health Insurance Program depends mainly on primary care physicians.

2- They may also work in the primary care facilities of private and governmental hospitals.

3- As well as in health directorates and MOHP.

4- They have great opportunity working in Gulf countries applying family medicine on primary care level.

5- They may also work for accreditation and quality management of primary care facilities.
